wasabimon food blog - stephanie stiavetti

My birthday was last week, and as a gift my husband helped me to redesign Wasabimon. There are still a few more minor changes coming down the pike, but for the most part the big stuff is done.

I have a favor to ask you, dear Internet. Would you mind acting as my de facto QA folk? Please click around the site and let me know if you see anything missing or out of place. If there’s anything you find annoying or weird, please comment here. Also, leave a comment and tell me your thoughts on the design overall!

I really appreciate your help, and I promise to reward you for your awesomeness with some great giveaways in the very near future. :)

I love it! It’s so cute and fun and funky-fresh at the same time. (Hm, sound familiar?)

Steph,

Love your stuff! Great unique look and easy to navigate. Read the post on a childhood of processed foods. Amazing we don’t all (of a certain age) don’t glow in the dark. Site looks good– cheery and fresh, with an edge. (Just like someone I know!)

Cheers,
C

Really digging the border at the top of the page. It’s fresh and colourful without being too ‘loud’. The heart shaped sushi piece is very, very cute :)
I had a poke around, and tested links for you (and found some great stuff in the archives to bookmark for later trying!) – everything that I clicked was sound, and lead where I expected it to, and they behave when you open them in a new tab.
Looks great!

Well, I’ve never been here before, so your blog may have looked like crap before, but it certainly looks clean, fresh, and eye-catching now. I looked at your pro website, too, and clicked on your article about using Twitter. Thanks for the useful content!

Stephanie,
Happy belated birthday! I think the redesign looks fab! I especially like the heart-shaped sushi roll and the sushi favicon. Also, I clicked around and couldn’t find any error messages.

Stephanie, this all look super cute and is easy to navigate. I had to stare for a minute before i noticed, but my very favorite detail is the pointy green grass in the top header bar- its sushi grass! The little green plastic grass you get in to-go boxes of sushi. Nice touch.

I like it — the design is really bold and I like the icon, and the heart-shaped sushi in chopsticks. I don’t have anything critique-y to say because it’s really grand. The one thing I’m not sure about is the background pink wall paper. It makes it feel a little busy to me and I like a whiter look. But I suspect I’m in the minority there so you should just keep it the way it is!

Hey Steph! I totally dig the redesign. It’s a total improvement, and totally ups the professionalism of your site.

The branding is awesome. The header is perfect. Love the colors. Love the heart sushi. And the colors are really fresh/playful. Very you. The tagline “when all else fails, cook” is great too. That immediately tells me what the blog is about. (otherwise, I’d think it was a japanese themed, or asian food site)

I really like how each post has 3 similar posts suggested. That can keep a user here clicking along.

I love how you categorize the blogs by cuisine. And have the Twitter links prominent. And I’m impressed at how you have the advertising stuff setup! You’re such a whiz.

I’ll give you a couple constructive comments, since everyone else gave positive, and I know you wanted feedback…

*There’s a lot of info here, and you do a good job laying it all out. But some pages have a little bit too much happening along the edges for me. I get overwhelmed easily.

*Also, I’m wondering what you want a visitor to do when they come to the site. (Aside from reading the blog). Do you have action items in mind? Like, join your email list? Share the recipe on Facebook? I’m just throwing ideas out there. But make sure you know how you want to *convert* a casual reader into a more loyal fan.

*Typo in the About section. 2nd sentence should say “site” not “sight.”

*In the About section, I saw that it’s mainly a gluten-free, with a heavy dose of vegan & seasonal. That may be something to sell more. It can be a way to draw repeat readers back. Can it be on the home page?

Hope this helps!!

What else.
