It’s Five O’clock Somewhere: The Perfect Chocolate Martini

Josh KirkpatrickToday’s guest post is from Josh Kirkpatrick, AKA Formica – you’ve seen him here before, rocking the beef stroganoff. Today he’s back with the perfect end-of-week treat, a chocolate martini recipe that will knock your socks off. And who cares if it’s still early in the day? I mean, come on… it’s five o’clock somewhere.

Is it egotistical to call something perfect? Yes; I’m doing it anyway.

This chocolate martini recipe is the result of years of experimentation, and two moments of satori:

  1. Take notes on each iteration of the drink
  2. Chocolate syrup is the key

Properly made, this chocolate martini should have the taste and consistency of melted chocolate ice cream.

The Perfect Chocolate Martini Recipe

To make one Perfect Chocolate Martini, one part should equal two-thirds of a shot, or 30ml. Most shakers should be able to make two of these cocktails at once.

Drinkin’ Math – One Shot Glass Equals:

  1. Three tablespoons
  2. 45 milliliters

Chocolate Martini Ingredients:

  • 1.5 parts vodka
  • 1 part half ‘n half
  • 1 part chocolate liqueur
  • 1 part chocolate syrup
  • 1 chocolate garnish of your choice

Equipment:

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Cocktail glass
  • Toothpick
  • Fresh ice
  • Measuring device (I suggest a shot glass marked in milliliters)
  1. Place your glass and shaker in the freezer for at least ten minutes for the coldest possible drink.
  2. Fill your shaker at least one third full with fresh ice. Add the liquid ingredients to the shaker in the order listed above. If you use a measuring cup, add the chocolate syrup last. You can measure it by displacement.
  3. Shake vigorously.
  4. Strain into your chilled cocktail glass, garnish with your toothpicked chocolate, and serve immediately.

So, I love me a good chocolate martini. What’s your favorite chocolate cocktail recipe?

Now that’s a recipe to bring in the weekend. If only I had all of the ingredients on hand, I would be making one right now.

Don’t know what looks better Stephanie, the chocolate martini or your red stripes! What counts for ‘chocolate liqueur’ here? Is white creme de cacao a legit option, or do I need something different?

I love these super shaken so that they are almost like a grown up milkshake. Sometimes I rim the glass in sugar and cinnamon or a touch of cayanne to give kick! ground hazelnuts make it sexier than nutella. And being G-F makes for a good excuse to drink dessert when passing on the cake. Yum!!!!!

Yum, I used to drink these all the time before the night I had one too many and lost my craving for them altogether. It’s been a while though–maybe I’ll give the Kahlua a rest and try one again. Oh, and my spin on it was vanilla vodka.

Oh my – this martini is “right” in so many ways. I can’t think of a more decadent way to end the week.
