It's been a long time since Thanksgiving. I've made this two more times since and I give up. I want it to be good, but, really, it tastes like green beans and tomatoes and kinda onions. It was a whole lot of effort for ... meh.

Well, not a complete "meh." It's a chance to drink an uninterrupted glass of wine while "working."

But it sure smells good.

Oh, Lynn, I still love you best.

Just discovered this blog - love it! Humor, good food and proper spelling? Amazing! You even have great commentators! Am making this dish for a get-together on Friday and will keep in mind the liquid (and maybe try Eileen's browning-in-batches suggestion). Thanks!

Okay, I'm making this right now for my Thanksgiving hot dish and here's what I think about the "something":
I think browning two onions AND 2# green beans at the same time doesn't really produce the flavor I would expect from browned vegetables — onions especially. I think with all that in the pan to start, you boil the veggies. Not brown them. Next time I will try browning in small batches and see how that works. More time, yes, but ... Must. Conquer. Green beans.
Also next time I'll try fire roasted tomatoes (Muir Glen).
Oh, and next time I will not wear light colored pants, or paint my backsplash a light color or mop my floor before cooking (<i>what</i> was I thinking?). It'll be a 28oz can of crushed fire roasted tomatoes.
As to the amount of liquid ... yeah. There was a lot. I'm at 20 minutes and counting.
But I have wine.
