Just an FYI on warranties...if you buy your vitamix or blendtec with an american express card they will double the manufacturer's warranty up to a max of 5 additional years...

Good news!! Vitamix just took over the Starbucks account. They are in the middle me the transition as we speak.

Vitamix is the superior product. Better ease of use with the multi functions. Tamper makes a big difference. They use the vitamix in the culinary institute of America uses vitamix. Blendtec is good but vitamix is better. More hands on. makes out butters much faster. Actually is hire performing and spins faster. Anyway. So good news. Starbucks learned their lesson. not too mention jamba and thousands of other commercial establishments.

I've had both. I had a Vitamix for years, but the carafe was just too tall, so I had to keep moving it around. Also, the nut eventually comes loose and is a real pain to replace and get the set screw exactly right.
I have the Blendtec now, and am using it more just because it fits under the cabinets. Performance is very similar otherwise.

Yes, I have to agree with you that Starbucks has no idea. They used to use Vita-mix then moved to the Blendtec. I noticed after doing so I had to ask them to double blend because I was always getting clumps of ice. That was what helped me to make my choice to buy the Vita-Mix. that was bout 9-10 years ago and I love this thing. When you really want a think but smooth drink the kind that will sit 1.5" above the rim you need the tamper and the vortex provided by the Vita-Mix. On the other hand, if you do not care about that and just want the one button options- Blendtec is the way to go... both great blenders and you really cannot go wrong but my money is not Vita-Mix everyday. As for the people that say Vita-Mix has not changed their product over the years... my Jet table saw has not changed over the years and for good reason, it works and works well
